About Me

Katie Otey

Oh great! You’ve clicked on the “about me” link! Great. So, since you are here to read all about me, let me get started…I am a thirty-something dashing young lady who wears many hats. I am a wife, a mother to three rambunctious boys, one pre-teen daughter and one teenage step-daughter. Our children range in age from 2 to 17. I also work outside the home and am constantly trying to juggle the demands of my job, kids, spouse, home and fulfilling all of my dreams and aspirations. But let’s face it, that’s a tall order and I usually fall short I love to read and write and have told stories about my family and my life for years. I’m a bit on the sarcastic side so be forewarned. Shopping is one of my favorite pastimes, but I’m cheap and my penny pinching is annoying to pretty much every person who has ever gone somewhere with me that costs money. I love comedy and shun any form of entertainment that will have me angry, nervous or crying. What’s the point when I can just live life and encounter situations that will bring about those emotions for free? Besides, laughter is the best medicine for all things stressfull so I spend quite a bit of time laughing at myself and my family. It’s either that or I’d be in a corner somewhere crying and popping Xanax.  I’m a music snob and am constantly shoving my favorite “old school” artists down my kids’ throats. I’m sure, deep down, they agree that the music from my era is the best music ever made. They just don’t want to admit it! I have two phobias, one of heights and one of bugs. I freak out at the sight of blood or any other bodily fluid and I do NOT handle medical emergencies with any type of sense. I love learning and have two degrees. I also like to travel and study different cultures. Right now, I’m trying to learn Spanish. And although I’ve been studying the language since the eight grade, I still cannot speak more than the basics. I love my life, my husband, my children, and my family and although we aren’t perfect, we are real and that is what I hope you take away from reading this blog. You will get stories, advice, information, and sometimes just a different way of looking at life as we know it.  What you won’t get is a bubble gum, flowers and candy version of how great my world is. I like realism and I embrace it…the good, the bad and the ugly.
